Reports suggest that the Kolkata giants East Bengal might play in Indian Super League and Super Cup, which is contradictory to nine other I-League teams who have pulled out from the same.
East Bengal, in an official statement to AIFF vowed to discuss this matter with their General Secretary Kalyan Mujumdar and Quess Corporation officials. It seems that they might have come up with a conclusion as their chances of participation in the said tournament becomes more stronger.
If East Bengal decides to play in ISL, it would result a great loss to I-League as a whole as the passionate fans will no longer be able to enjoy the Derby matches. This will result a feeling of resentment among the other I-League clubs especially Mohun Bagan and it may compel them to take actions against AIFF.
East Bengal is scheduled to play against the ISL club Delhi Dynamos FC in the Super Cup on 30th March 2019 in Bhubaneswar. Nine other I-League clubs like Real Kashmir FC, Aizawl FC, Minerva Punjab FC etc have already boycotted the tournament. With East Bengal participating, it offered great surprise to both I-League and ISL fans and hints about East Bengal’s participation in the next ISL.
