Indian Football Team could play in the King’s Cup in Thailand in June after AIFF received a formal invitation from the Football Association of Thailand.
The King’s Cup is an invitational tournament organised in Thailand by FA Thailand. The tournament was started in 1968 and has been held every year since then.
This will be the first tournament for the Blue Tigers after their heroics in the AFC Asian Cup 2019.
India participated in the tournament in 1977 and finished third. Accordingly, Thailand is the most successful team with 15 titles to their name.
Apart from India, China and Vietnam will also participate in the tournament. In case Vietnam opts out due to prior comments, a team from Europe, most probably Slovakia, will replace them.
Until now, the AIFF has not appointed any coach for the national team but has started receiving applications for the said post.
This tournament will provide great exposure to the players as they will be able to play against the Asian giants like China etc. It will also serve as an examination for the newly appointed coach, testing his tactics and orders against some of the best in Asia.
