We can exclusively confirm that Moustapha Gning is on the radar for both Odisha FC and Hyderabad FC. Although the player also has a contract extension offer in hand from Kerala Blasters, sources close to the player have confirmed that he is yet to make the decision.
The Senegalese, who was signed by Kerala Blasters during the beginning of the season for a one- year deal, has made 13 appearances, he has not scored any goals in his debut season in ISL. But the 31-year-old has shown the talent he possesses, because of which he is now on three clubs’ radar.
The defensive midfielder although, missed out on a few games owing to an injury midway during the tournament, but he recovered in time to return for the Blasters.
Gning has had quite a bit of experience, playing for various clubs in Spain like UD Logroñés, Sariñena, Amorebieta, Ebro etc. In a 200+ games career, he has found the back of the net 12 times. One of the players who was handpicked by Eelco Schattorie at the beginning of the season, it remains to be seen where he will be headed to next.
Kerala Blasters have been linked to bringing in Kibu Vicuna as the head coach. And as per initial reports, he has given a list of players he would like in the team. If it’s true, then Gning is likely to find favour with the team, although he didn’t necessarily set the stage on fire, he did put on pretty good shifts, and under Vicuna, it will be an opportunity for him to flourish.
Hyderabad on the other hand, who have not had a good season, have brought in Spanish tactician Albert Roca for the next season. They have been very active in the transfer market, picking up a good mix of young talent as well as relying on some well-established names.
Odisha FC meanwhile were the surprise package this season, and not many expected them to go as far as they did. But with Joseph Gombau not in charge anymore, and quite a few youngsters being signed in Gning’s experience is likely to come handy.
The player is expected to take a call soon. Stay tuned for further details.
