Rajasthan United FC booked a place in the next round of the I-League Qualifiers after picking up a draw versus Madan Maharaj FC.
The stakes were high as the two teams clashed in their final match of the first round. A win would ensure their progress into the next stage while a loss would mean their qualification would rest on the result between Ryntih SC and FC Bengaluru United.
The match started with a goal for Jiten Murmu scoring for Madan Maharaj FC in the 12th minute. The RUFC attack managed to create a few chances before halftime but none of them resulted in a goal. A couple of chances were created in the second half too but to no avail.
Just when it looked like the team from Madhya Pradesh might pull off a win, a goal from the boots of Raja Musharaf (90+4’) ensured Rajasthan United took home a point. The single point proved decisive as the Jaipur based club advanced to the next round.
RUFC being one of the less fancied teams have managed to put on solid performances in all of their matches. The team picked up all three points in their very first match against Ryntih SC.
Their second clash against group favourites FC Bengaluru United proved decisive as the game ended in a 1-1 draw, in which RUFC managed to outshine a much stronger FCBU in several phases of the game.
With a win and a draw under the bag, the Rajasthan outfit needed at least a draw to book their place in the next stage, a loss would mean they would have to depend on the other Group A result to progress further. But, they left no stone unturned in the match as they kept the intensity up despite the early goal from Madan Maharaj and scored the equalizer.
RUFC now stand at the cusp of history as they go onto the next round, being the first club from Rajasthan to play in the I-league.
