ISL champions ATK FC announced the extension of Roy Krishna’s contract for another year. The striker will continue playing for the newly merged entity of ATK and Mohun Bagan.
The star player took to social media and said that he had no hesitation to continue his association with the club after a successful season.
The Fiji international had a wonderful debut season and scored 15 goals and chipped in with 6 assists as well. He was amongst the top three goal scorers in the previous season. Having played together for A-league side Wellington Pheonix, his partnership with David Williams worked splendidly for ATK that saw the Kolkata outfit clinch their third ISL trophy.
From next season, the I-league champions Mohun Bagan and ATK will form a merger entity and will take part in the ISL as well as the group stages of AFC Cup 2021. Both ATK and Mohun Bagan have several proven performers, some of whom, like Krishna will be retained to defend the ISL title in the upcoming season as well as to put the best team forward in the continental competition.
The 32-year-old said, “It was my first experience of India and I’ve really enjoyed my time away even though it’s very far from familiar grounds. Kolkata is an amazing city with lovely people and it’s now a second home for me.”
Regarding the merger he added, “I am also very excited about the merger of ATK and Mohun Bagan. Hopefully, the borders reopen in time for the pre-season trainings.”
