With new dates announces for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup set to take place from February 17-March 7 2021, the dates will directly clash with both the I-League and Indian Super League.
Although it is understood that both the leagues will be taking a break during the World Cup, the cities hosting the tournament are in a fix.
One of the host cities, Kolkata that hosts the ISL side ATK, and from next season onward the merged entity ATK-Mohun Bagan, as well as East Bengal in the VYMK Stadium (Salt Lake), is likely to be directly affected by this.
The Salt Lake Stadium which will be taken over by the FIFA organisation committee a few months ahead of the World Cup, will not be available for both the teams to play from.
The other available grounds for ATK-MB are under various stages of innovation, leaving only the Mohun Bagan ground. The facilities on this ground do not fulfil the criteria of broadcasting in ISL, along with a few amenities.
For East Bengal, they have the options of East Bengal ground and Kalyani Stadium which hosted them for a few matches last season, before they moved to Salt Lake.
Where will the Kolkata Giants look to play their matches?
